South Thames Colleges Group is extremely proud of our BTEC students’ achievements. Our largest programme, BTEC National Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, had some incredible results with students achieving Triple Distinction*, equivalent to three A* grades at A Level.

Kingston and South Thames College Principal, John O'Shea, commented: “We have distributed over 3000 Level 3 vocational results (equivalent to A Levels) today with hundreds of students gaining Distinction* and Distinctions, the highest grades, in their vocational qualifications. Whilst we know the percentage of high grades has dropped over the UK, we are delighted to have seen this increase for the Group. Almost a thousand students are off to university with the majority of the remaining students progressing to employment or an Apprenticeship. We are delighted with the results over such a vast array of subjects, and this is just reward for the hard work of students and staff across the Group.”

BTEC Health & Social Care student, Shelby Craker, achieved Triple Distinction*, equivalent to 3 A* at A Level, and has accepted a place to study BSc Paramedic Science at St George’s University. She says: “Choosing a BTEC allowed me to choose one subject so that I could pursue my career as a paramedic at university. Studying Paramedic Science at St George’s University has been a childhood dream and BTEC has allowed me to do this.”

BTEC Interactive Media & Games Design student, Edie Thomas, also gained D*D*D*. Edie has accepted a place to study Games Art at university and was also approached by two animation studios for internships. She says: “I was never good at exams, my anxiety made it difficult to concentrate so having the option to mainly be graded on my coursework was a better fit. I was amazed when I got my first Distinction and have happily been achieving since.”
