A former Merton College student sang her heart out in the first semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent 2020. Imen Siar, a 21-year-old from Croydon who studied Health & Social Care at the College, took to the stage on Saturday to compete for a place in the Grand Final and a performance at the Royal Variety Show.

After impressing the judges with her strong vocals when she first performed in the competition in June, this time Imen belted out the ballad ‘You Say’ by Lauren Daigle – even singing one verse of the song in Arabic. She wowed the panel again, with comedian David Walliams commenting that ‘this girl is a star’ and Alesha Dixon adding that she ‘made (the song) unique’.

As a student Imen often performed at College events, demonstrating her fantastic voice to staff and fellow students. When she first appeared on the show over the summer, Imen said: "I've been watching Britain's Got Talent for years. To think that I'm going to be on stage is mind-blowing".

ITV’s prime time show has undergone a change in format, as the judges now only select one act from each semi-final to go through to the final. The remaining seven performers have to wait for the results of a public vote. The winner of the public vote will be unveiled in next month’s live final and we wish Imen the best of luck for the show and in her bright future.
