On 2nd May, both our Level 2 and 3 Electrical Installation students celebrated the end of their work placements with United Living in a special awards ceremony at Taste Restaurant.
The celebration marked the end of nearly six months of industry placement where national contractor United Living provided over fifty construction students work experience at its Rhodes Moorhouse Court project.
Along with Construction learners from Carshalton College, our students helped create 68 new homes for the ex-service community on behalf of Haig Housing Trust.
As part of the ceremony students, contractors and staff reflected on their experiences from the programme and to provide recognition for those who performed exceptionally well.
Check out the video of the ceremony:
George Koritsas, Construction Team Leader at Merton College, said: “The feedback we have had from United Living has been absolutely tremendous. The students realise they are being spoilt from the very beginning because we explain to them that real sites aren’t often as good as a United Living site, in the way they treat them and the way the place functions.”
Farhan Mohamed, Site Manager at United Living, said: “We have built a very strong relationship with South Thames College, and Merton College in particular. The staff have been exceptional and have helped us through the process. The students have enjoyed it and we have had an opportunity to mentor them and share our knowledge and experience with them and hopefully, this should give them the confidence to apply for their first job. If what we have done here has helped them in their career then it would have all been worth it.”
Neil Dickson, Engineering/Construction Curriculum Manager at Merton College, said: “United Living have done everything they can to put in place high-quality work experience with a minimum of fuss. We would like to thank everyone at United Living for doing such a wonderful job in welcoming Merton College students to its site.”
