On 19 September 2014, the College hosted a Topping Out Ceremony with Construction firm, Dawnus Construction, to celebrate the next stage of the new Creative Industries Centre.

The tradition of 'Topping Out' originates from Scandinavia and the honour went to Zac Goldsmith, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston who installed the highest and last fixing on the new building. To further commemorate the event Neil Johnson, Regional Director of Dawnus Construction, presented Kingston College Principal, Peter Mayhew-Smith, with an engraved trowel as a gift from the construction company to the College, which is another topping out ceremony tradition.

The £10 million flagship centre for the Creative Industries officially opened in Spring 2015, and it has already become a centrepiece for arts education in London.
