A student entrepreneur from Merton College is set to take the business world by storm after winning a national enterprise competition. Julieta Ose Ahmedze, an 18-year-old Level 3 business student, won £1,000 after giving a three minute pitch on her oxygen cocktail business idea, OxyOse, at the 2014 Student Enterprise Conference in Sheffield. And now the student has investors and banks vying to offer her the £30,000 investment to grow her business.

Aspiring catering professionals from Merton College were treated to a fish masterclass from critically acclaimed chef and the College's chef ambassador, Bruno Loubet.

The search for stars got underway at Merton College recently, with an event to rival Simon Cowell's famous television talent show. Forget Britain's Got Talent, it was students from the Merton College who took to the stage to show off the impressive skills they usually keep under wraps in the classroom.

A big-hearted student from Merton College raised over £500 for Macmillan by auctioning a guitar he handcrafted during his lessons. 30-year-old Steven Richardson, a musical instrument making and repair student, chose to raise money for the cancer charity after his aunt died of the disease last year.

Steven, who lives in Streatham, said: "My aunt's wish was for donations to be made to Macmillan nurses as they really helped her in her last days. Whilst there was a whip around, I didn't feel that it would be enough on my part. So I decided to build a guitar and auction it off, in the hope of making more than just £20 in a cup."

TV food judge Gregg Wallace gave the seal of approval to Merton College’s brand new Hospitality and Catering Academy, ahead of the first students firing up the hotplates next month. The £5.7m facility, based at the Merton College opens on September 4 and will offer courses for all ages, from beginner to university-level.

Children from Morden Primary School Year Four today took part in Pancake Day fun and learning with chef lecturers from South Thames College's new Hospitality and Catering Academy. The event promotes basic food skills and healthy eating – learning to cook can be fun.
