In the second of our Merton Adult Education case studies, we recently spoke to Christine Billa; who has progressed from a Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools to a Supported Teaching and Learning Level 2 course, to fulfil her dream ambition of working in education as an Early Years Teacher.
"I first came to the college in September 2017 and took a Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools course.
The college is really welcoming. The staff are all friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. I am currently on a Supported Teaching and Learning Level 2 course. My tutor Debra Valentine is very supportive and every lesson is clearly thought out and delivered well.
This year I am the class representative and also college year representative which I am enjoying. I have also taken Distance Learning courses in 7 subject areas including Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties, Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Understanding Nutrition and Healthy. I would recommend these excellent courses to all students who want to learn more about their subject area.
It is such a good scheme that fits around everyone’s timetable. Next year I would like to apply to university and do Early Years Foundation Stage Teacher Training".
