On the evening of Monday 3rd December, 9 of our first year students (5 x L2 Food & Beverage Service and 4 x L1 Professional Cookery) from the College’s Hospitality & Catering Academy served at a canapé and drinks reception for 180 invited guests,  at the recently opened American Embassy in Nine Elms, London.

Students arrived on site at 4pm and by 5.30pm guests were arriving. With little input from Steve Cannell, Head of Catering & Hospitality Academy, our students gelled as a professional team, working the bar and serving canapés.

The students remained highly professional throughout; dispersing during a 1hr speech and Q&A session on the mid-term elections and serving additional canapés and drinks post presentation.

Following the guests’ departure, the students stripped down the bar and reception area, disposed of all the rubbish and departed safely.

The request to support the event came in just two weeks ahead of it so was delivered at short notice. Whilst recognising it is not practically possible for us to make canapés and transport to outside locations away from the College the First Secretary & Consul Deputy Cultural Affairs Officer – Anna Aramabulo Martz was keen to engage us in further events. She had originally tracked us down via Google through our work with the Jockey Club, Epsom.

Our students were very pleased to be working in such a unique location and rose to the challenge with true professionalism.
