The Hospitality and Catering Academy had a successful night at Hotelympia; the UKs leading hospitality and foodservice event. The event is a platform for thousands of businesses and buyers to market and support the food service industry as one of the UK's most vibrant trades. The students took part in a competition judged by a prestigious panel from the Craft Guild of Chefs.
With sponsorship from Russums, a leading supplier of clothing and equipment to the hospitality industry, the team of Level 2 and Level 3 Professional Cookery students achieved a Gold Medal as well as being awarded “Best in Class”.
The students’ brief was to design a concept and display piece for Street Food. The inspiration for the team’s concept was the diverse cultural area of Merton and the display was designed around Wimbledon Tennis.
The mouth-watering menu included dishes such as:
- Merton Mac - macaroni cheese
- Chicken Wings
- Lamb Koftas
- Indian pulled lamb
- Popcorn goats cheese
- Dean City sliders
- Macaroon Lolly
- Messy doughnuts
- Eaton Mess
- Apple crumble cocktail
- Gin Wandle cocktail.
A big congratulations goes to Tutor, Andrew Trowell and all the students (list names in alphabetical order)
The team are already looking forward to the next competition at Hotelympia in 2020.
