This course helps prepare you to work with children between birth and five years. You'll also learn about children up to seven years.
You will have to undertake 250 hours of work placement in a childcare setting. Which is approximately 7 hours per week for the duration of the course.

You'll need to buy some appropriate childcare books and you'll get information on this at interview or enrolment. You'll also need to pay for your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB) which you'll need for your work placement.
An assessor will assess you in your work placement. You will also complete assignments and reflect on your practical experience in the setting.
You will need to attend an advice and guidance session and undertake a literacy and numeracy assessment.
