Graham Wood - Watercolour Painting

Graham Wood

Graham Wood wanted to improve his painting skills after starting work as a painter and illustrator. He began a course in drawing and watercolour painting at Merton Adult Education which enabled him to study one day a week at college learning a variety of techniques and approaches to painting with a range of subjects from still life to landscape and portraits. “I joined the watercolour class two years ago in a bid to improve my technique which I feel I have definitely succeeded with.”

Introduction

Express yourself and develop your creative skills on this watercolour painting course. You'll learn controlled and expressive painting techniques you can use to paint with confidence.

You'll paint a range of subjects including painting from life, landscapes, figures and portraits. You will also paint from imagination. Classes begin with a demonstration by your tutor, who will provide historical context to the methods being used. If you're a more experienced student you'll be able to develop personal themes, subjects and methods throughout the course.

Materials

Please bring your own watercolour paints and brushes (you can buy a simple set from most art shops). Your tutor will advise you on any other materials you need when you come in for your first session. You can purchase paper from your tutor in class.

Assessment

There will be one-to-one teaching so your tutor can discuss your progress with you. You'll also complete a learning plan to track your work. We encourage you to show your work at the end of each sessions so you can discuss your work with your classmates.

Next Steps

You could develop your skills by taking another painting or drawing class at the College.
