90 or 180 Credit Course

Achieve a 90-credit diploma in your first year of study then top up to 180 credits on the extended diploma in the second year. The extended diploma gives you much more detail on the subject - it's the same as three A-levels and is a great route into university. If you already have 90 credits from another college, you can choose to top up to the extended diploma with just one year of study.


This course looks at various aspects of tourism, broadening your knowledge and skills to improve your career prospects in the travel and tourism industry. You'll have the chance to take part in an overseas residential field trip that will broaden your understanding of how airlines and airports operate and how hotels and visitor attractions work abroad and attract international customers. This will underpin your class assignments. As part of the course, you'll have a two-week work placement in the sector. Previously, our students have worked with companies including Travelodge, Thomson and National Express. We run several visits a year to give you an understanding of how UK visitor attractions operate successfully, this has included the London Aquarium, Tower of London and Thorpe Park.

There are compulsory and optional units including:

  • Customer service
  • Business of travel and tourism
  • UK, European and long-haul destinations
  • Resort representatives
  • Marketing.


You'll be given a book list and you'll be expected to buy the main text book for the course. Our library is well-stocked with everything else you need.


Continuous assessment of coursework, role play, presentations, case studies. There are also some externally moderated exams.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 including English or maths (with the other at grade D/3); OR a relevant Level 2 qualification at least at merit.

Next Steps

From the 90-credit diploma, move up to the extended diploma in travel and tourism. From the extended diploma, You can progress onto university or employment in careers such as a tour operator or cabin crew.
