Dennis Shaw

I enrolled with Merton Adult Education on an English Entry 3 course in September 2017 which I passed. This made me look at other courses available to me to pursue a career.  I have completed Health and Social Care Level 1 and am now taking an English course Level 1.

I feel very secure at this college and my confidence has grown. I am very happy at the college and it is welcoming. All the staff are really helpful. My teachers give me excellent feedback and are very encouraging. I think the facilities are really good and I enjoy using the library. The library staff are very supportive too.

My aim is to take Health and Social Care Level 2 in September and then get a job in the Health Sector as a nurse.

The 7-credit Pearson BTEC Level 1 Award provides an introduction to the skills, qualities and knowledge that may be required for employment in a particular vocational sector.

The two modules that you will study are:

  1. Health and Social Care Needs

The aim of this unit is to introduce learners to physical and emotional care needs, factors that affect health and the general health and social care available for individuals.

  1. Job Opportunities in Health and Social Care

The aim of this unit is for learners to find out about jobs in different sectors of health and social care, the terms and conditions of employment in health and social care, and the qualifications and skills required to work in this sector. Learners will plan how to start work in health and social care.

There may be materials you need to help with your studies. You'll either make a one-off payment for these when you enrol, or you'll buy them during the course. Your tutor will talk to you about this at interview or in your first class (if you don't need an interview).

Depending on your course and circumstances, you may be able to get funding to help with materials fees. Please check with us when you come in for interview or enrolment.

You will receive assessment and feedback from your Assessor, this course has two modules which you will need to pass.
