Introduction

 

This course is designed as a practical introduction to working on and restoring furniture and will cover many of the main areas and techniques required for repair and refinishing. This course will also cover how to start your own business.

Topics covered include:

  • Appropriate tools

  • Dismantling furniture releasing and cleaning joints

  • Veneering and Marquetry

  • Re-making / repairing joints

  • Glues types, properties, preparation, uses and application

  • Cleaning old surfaces chemical and mechanical- the controlled approach

  • Reducing stains and water marks

  • Polishes Wax / French polishing
  • Help and support with starting a small business with no previous experience
  • Gain the knowledge and confidence to make decisions and make a success of your business

Materials

Students to bring their own pieces of small to medium pieces of furniture, there may be a charge for materials.

Assessment

Your tutor will give you feedback and advice. You'll also complete self assessment and homework.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required.
