Watercolour Student

“Coming to the art classes over the years has been brilliant! I started as a beginner and because I like to stay active, I’ve also supported an art class where people were attending after experiencing a stroke. Painting makes me feel relaxed and peaceful, so I’ve loved developing my watercolour skills. The online group is friendly and we give each other helpful advice. At the beginning of each session, we share what we have done at home and get advice from our tutor. I am now looking forward to improving my technique for painting nature and buildings.”

This watercolour course is designed for people to enjoy a journey in art. Creating beautiful artworks and relaxing at the same time. This is an excellent way to relax and also helps with stress, anxiety and depression as well as boosting your self-esteem.

You'll paint a range of subjects including painting from life, landscapes, figures and portraits. You will also paint from imagination.

Classes begin with a demonstration by your tutor, who will provide historical context to the methods being used. If you're a more experienced student you'll be able to develop personal themes, subjects and methods throughout.

Please bring your own watercolour paints and brushes (you can buy a simple set from most art shops). Your tutor will advise you on any other materials you need when you come in for your first session. You can purchase paper from your tutor in class.

There will be one-to-one teaching so your tutor can discuss your progress with you. You'll also complete a learning plan to track your work. We encourage you to show your work at the end of each sessions so you can discuss your work with your classmates.

Next Steps

You could develop your skills by taking another painting or drawing class at the College.
