Merton College trains gold medal winners

UK gold medallists at Euroskills
Four young people trained at Merton College won Gold Medals at Euroskills 2008, held in Rotterdam in September. Competing against teams from 29 other European countries, the UK Skills Cleaning Team won the team gold and also each gained the top prize in their individual categories.
Mary Schramm, Head of Employer Skills at the college, was delighted with their success and described the competitors as “The best of the best”
Euroskills was a Europe-wide ‘skills olympics’ for staff in a range of sectors important to the economy and culture of the competing nations. Teams worked together demonstrating the various skills needed in a successful team.
The team clean competitors were trained for the event by Merton College.
Fabio Sliva was the team manager, and was scored on skills such as customer service, pricing a job and risk assessment. Kirsty Steel was the winner in the Supervisor category, gaining credit for team motivation, initiative and implementing a schedule. Craig Robinson and Sandro Nobrego were cleaners, winning their category for efficient working practices, health and safety and successful completion of tasks.
In all the UK team won three team and six individual gold medals, and finished second in the overall medals table. More details about the competition can be read on the UK Skills web site, www.ukskills.org.uk
