Students are encouraged to try out different methods, tools and techniques where time allows. Another part of the year is devoted to learning or improving on woodwork skills and theory. Instruments made by a student

During the second year the student is becoming increasingly responsible for researching suitable plans or instruments on which to base their projects. Topics covered include: -alternative construction methods -hand and spray finishing techniques -setting up: aiming for professional standards. In addition to this, part of the year is spent on maintenance and overhaul of fretted instruments, which could include mandolins and banjos. These repairs will normally be done as project work on instruments brought in by students, but we own a large stock of instruments for practice work.

Full time EDI Level 3 Guitar Making

This one year course follows on from the Level 2 course and includes aspects of business planning as well as acoustics. Students will by now be very competent in the basic guitar making and repair processes so we will focus in improving speed and efficiency through practice.
