Guitar Making - Part time day and evening Courses

Part time day Guitar Making

A two year course in Guitar making, one day per week, leading to a City & Guilds NVQ Level 1. Making an instrument is the main part of the course. You will also study aspects of the history and development of the guitar, the materials used and woodworking techniques. Applicants will be interviewed for these courses.

Evening courses

A one year (30 week) course in Guitar making and repair. Currently there are two classes running on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm. You are free to choose the area of work of most interest, whether it is making an acoustic or electric instrument, repairing or setting up. You will be shown the basic skills of tool use and maintenance which underpin all this type of work, as well as more advanced techniques.

An acoustic guitar will take two or more years to complete, whereas an electric will take less time. There is no limit on the number of classes you can enrol for. There are also no entry requirements apart from enthusiasm!
